Your legs and feet endure constant stress or pressure due to the amount of time that you spend standing, as well as from the pressure they endure during physical activity and sports. Because of all the work your feet undergo on a daily basis, they are prone to developing many painful conditions. The most common types of foot pain seem to develop around the heel of the foot, as the heels of the feet often hit the ground at speed and are under great pressure during running or any other physical activity.

Plantar fasciitis is a common, painful condition affecting the bottom of the heel and foot. It is a common cause of heel pain and is sometimes called a heel spur. Plantar fasciitis is the correct term to use when there is active inflammation. Plantar fasciosis is more accurate when there is no inflammation but chronic degeneration instead. Acute plantar fasciitis is defined as inflammation of the origin of the plantar fascia and fascial structures around the area. Plantar fasciitis or fasciosis is usually just on one side. In about 30 per cent of all cases, both feet are affected.
