Your Back Care Programme is a brand new course offered by Physio Med that uses yoga based techniques to help sufferers of back pain, neck pain and sciatica to reduce their symptoms. By improving your movement, strength and stability, this will often lead to a reduction in pain and an improvement in overall flexibility.

The exercises that you will learn are highly recommended by Chartered Physiotherapists and are based on the recent NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines. Using yoga techniques for back care is recognised and recommended for the management of simple lower back pain.

About the instructor, Claire McGillycuddy

Claire McGillycuddy is a qualified Senior Chartered Physiotherapist and has 20 years’ experience in physiotherapy. Claire has also been a yoga practitioner for 20 years and has over 2 years’ experience as a Qualified Du Yoga Teacher. 

This is a fun introductory course where no yoga experience is required. So, come along & join Claire McGillycuddy for a fun yet gentle exercise class.

What to expect? The course overview

Our 6-week course will give you the confidence to perform back pain exercises with the aim of reducing your pain and improving your overall movement.

  • 1
    Week 1
    • You’ll complete a self-diagnosis questionnaire. Throughout the course, we’ll track your progress to see if the symptoms have improved
    • An introduction
    • A warm up
    • A flowing Yoga sequence based around spinal movements
    • Introduction to Yoga postures tailored to spine health
    • A relaxation
    • Time to ask questions through the session
    • Some home exercises to get on with
  • 2
    Week 2 You will build on the techniques from session 1

    Each class will include the following:

    • A warm up
    • A flowing Yoga sequence
    • Learn 3 to 4 yoga postures targeting spine health
    • A relaxation
    • Occasionally we will cover breathing exercises and Pranayama which is the formal practice of controlling the breathing

    Week 3 A continuation of session 2

    You will be building confidence with the techniques and may start to notice your flexibility improve

    Week 4 A continuation of session 3

    You may be seeing an improvement in your movement and start to see a reduction in pain

  • 5
    Week 5 A continuation of session 4

    By improving your movement and your strength and stability, this will often lead to a reduction in pain and an improvement in overall function

    Week 6 A continuation of session 5
    • You’ll complete a further questionnaire to assess your progress in the 6 weeks
    • A warm up

    • Time to ask questions through the session
    • Some home exercises to get on with

     

    Most people who attend the 6 week programme notice an overall improvement in their condition, with both a reduction in pain and an improvement in overall movement.

    You will also be been given some great specific exercises and appropriate advice to continue with the self management of your back.

Terms and Conditions

  • By booking on this course, you agree that you are committing to the full 6 weeks
  • If you miss a class, you cannot catch up on the previous class. Each class builds up on techniques from the previous class
  • The instructor will ask if you have any concerns or anything you need to report before commencing a class. However, it is important to report any new symptoms that you are worried about
  • The class is aimed at providing Yoga for Back Care to clients with non specific back pain
  • Should the course be scheduled at a time when the instructor is on holiday, the course will continue on the first Wednesday following the holiday

 

 

Fees

  • Physio Med and the patient agree that the service provided to the service user will cost £90 per 6 session course
  • Full payment of the Service Amount to Physio Med is required prior to the course to secure a place
  • Cancellation and refund Policy, 50% refund if cancelled 2 weeks prior to the start of the course. No refund if cancelled after 2 weeks
  • In the event of any sessions being missed by the participant, full or part refund is not applicable
  • The class may be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, if this occurs you will be notified
  • In the unlikely event of a course or session being cancelled an alternative course/session will be offered to the participant
